Didn't vote... there's not an option that fits my experience. I don't generally have the time or inclination for these things; in order to get anywhere you have to play constantly, and that's not my bag. Farming blows chode.
People get too caught up in them, too. Thinking electronic relationships over a graphics board are "real" and all that mess. My ex-wife "fell in love with" and got "married in game" to the guy she lives with now in FFXI, so maybe it works for some but not for me.
I'm an old-fashioned kind of guy I guess; my RP needs are better served with a DM screen in front of me and a crowd of droogs to herd through a dungeon with a map n' minis...
It's completley acceptable from my point of view. The thing shoudl have been a MMORPG, but it's infact just a MM - it's massive, and it's multiplayer. It's never constantly on-line, because nothing happnes to your character when you're not on-line (yeah, i like to be realistic), not to mention that the servers always have some sort of problem. And the RPG part is completley missing, because gaining xp soley on quests and grinding is not role-playing. The game does not encourage people to role-play, it just envourages people to kill massive amounts of random critters or other players. If i wanted that, i would have played DIablo, thank you very much.
Now, this might sound a little harsh, but i'm just pointing out that I personally dislike WoW, nothing more. Pen and Paper RPGs have always been much better, and they have a nice tendency of growing out into a good party. WoW... well if i had that much free time on my hand, i would play some game with a much more complex story and plotline (anagin, this is just my point of view).
P.S. About the part that it takes up your life blah blah... that has nothing to do with the game, it has to do with the personality of a player. Currently, WoW is one of the more popular games, so people usually assosiate it with persons who have a social problem (can't interact socially that easily and hence start playing on-line games). So maybe changing that [possible answer into my suggestion would be a win-win situation First, you'll educate people that "taking up someones life" does not have anything to do with WoW specifically, and you'll allow us who dislike it to express our feelings in a more normal way
Wow, my post has grown Sorry for this, too much beer in my organism, and i have a tendency of being eloquent when i'm a little drunk
