As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one.  Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one :) Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!

Stock Photography: Clint ClemensClint Clemens has long been dubbed the Father of modern Automotive Photography. His work is sleek, crisp, smooth and not unlike the subjects he photographs. One of his most famous shots is titled Kills Bugs Fast.  The story behind the image is that Porsche trust him only with the slogan and told him that he had to illustrate the idea himself. So he did. Thus landmark commercial stock photography was created.

Not satisfied with the fame for his astounding images, Clint went one step further to explore and figure out how he could photograph cars in his studio, creatively and with limited resources. He made the connection between car and road and realised that's where he belonged, out in the field rather than inside a studio. In 1980 he got the idea (a genius one!) to attach a camera to a car. H

Let's take a quick look at what a Daily Deviation is first. You might remember this article from our last PE week A Daily Deviation is NOT an award, but a feature. If you haven't already, you might want to take a look at it! It's a great read and you can get a good foundation as to what a Daily Deviation stands for.
So, I'll be touching on the subject of "Complaints about quality declines in Daily Deviations". Why is this so important to touch on? That's a great question and I will be more than happy to answer it below as I describe some key factors that are often overlooked in the way of art vs quality.

Celebrating Diversity #12This edition of Celebrating Diversity I want to focus on two extremes of art: Extremely detailed and realistic works and minimal and abstract art. Both tendencies or trends have their place and time in art and history and are appreciated by many people. Not always does one person like both, but to me personally, art has always been more about feeling, than about complexity. Photography Troubleshooting: Winter WildlifeFor many parts of the world, Winter provides a beautiful backdrop for some of the best landscape and water scape Photography out there. Snowy hills, Frosty trees and more help to convert a world of vibrant Summer or Autumn into subdued yet awe-inspiring Winter. But what about the wildlife? Extreme weather conditions can make it more challenging to get out and about with the camera, but can also give you more opportunity to capture those elusive animals.

When I first started investigating Winter Wildlife Photography I thought that I would have to aim for things like Foxes, Deer and other wild and sometimes elusive animals. But actually, wildlife Photography and in particular in the Winter - can start right in the back garden.

The other week, a piece of my writing was selected for a Daily Literature Deviation. If you're curious you can see the article here. I was humbled by that, but my reason for mentioning it in Photography Bi-weekly is that *0hgravity then highlighted a website to me that I found absolutely fascinating. It's soul purpose is to highlight Endangered Languages through Photography. 3170 lens are capturing the people who hold the key to the worlds most secret languages. "Replace Fear of the Unknown with Curiosity..."
As the year crawls into the final quarter - lots of challenges and daily photo tasks and so on begin to conclude. I have personally been challenging myself with the 365 Photography challenge - a photo a day for a whole year. It has been tricky to say the least, especially as I set myself a high standard of capturing more than one Photo a day - but also rewarding. Setting yourself a challenge, whether it's following the 52 week photography challenges that are out there, or doing a themed challenge such as 365 breakfasts - is a great way of expanding on your portfolio. Whilst it sometimes means that you struggle to find anything interesting to photograph or share, on the days that you do, you're one step closer to building another aspect of your portfolio.

No, that's not an ill-formed plea for pageviews, favorites, or watchers. :XD: Actually, I rarely even post art anymore. :D I am the Community Volunteer (CV) for photomanipulation, which means I regularly run contests, feature art, share news, post Daily Deviations (DDs), and do other things to support the community. It is in your best interest to watch my journal because I post every photomanipulation-related update there. This information is important to you so you can learn about upcoming events, changes in rules, new groups, and other news.

:bulletpink: Here are some hints n tips about submitting.....
    :bulletpink: Create the News Article as you normally would in your own Journal portal. N.B If you create this as a 'Journal' rather than 'News', when you submit it to the Group it will show up in the Gallery, rather than the Blog.

    :bulletpink: Choose to submit to Groups at the last page, after formatting and select #ArtHistoryProject. You may also submit to
    any Group you Admin for, providing it is relevant. In fact I would encourage this as it will spread the Project further - many people will be yet to hear about it. e.g. I submit my Pinup & Glamour stuff to my #Death-Chicks Group, as it fits the theme.

    :bulletpink: It doesn't matter what Art you usually create. You can get involved with any area. This is about what YOU can contribute. You are not stepping on anyone’s toes by picking a subject that other artists major in; there is nothing to force them to take part, so the community might miss out on that area all together if you don’t step up!


    :bulletpink: You may use the AH CSS Skin if you wish, but most have been using the CR one. It's up to you.

    :bulletpink: You may double up on days if needed :aww:

I would love to contribute. The only article I can think of however is "Being precise with historical garb" ...well that or find the thesis paper I wrote in 2006 about Joseph Wright of Derby :-)
