A word on miscats.Pronunciation:  miss-kat
Function:  noun
Etymology:  short for miscategorized
1.  DeviantArt-speak for an image that is posted in the wrong gallery.
2.  Any image that has been submitted improperly causing it to be out of place.
"What's the buzz about miscats, why do people make such a bid deal about them?"  It's a common enough question, what compels people to focus on them so much?  Hopefully I will help give some answers to this situation and provide some information to make people think about why miscats are such an important thing here at DeviantArt.
First off, as the definition above states, any image that isn't in the proper gallery is considered a miscat.  It happens to every gallery, art that isn't like the others.  Some really stand out and others are not so bold in their misplacement.  Regardless of how misplaced, it's a situation that can be improved.  Here's

VIRUS ALERT - let's stop the spam!OI! GUYS! Another exploit is running around dA!
If anyone on your devWATCH list posts a journal that has a short link  from bit.ly in it with a description like "HAHA", "LMAO", "omg this is sooo stupid lol" or "ROFL THIS IS GREAT", DO NOT CLICK IT.
It's going to make you automatically post a journal with the exact same message and spam dA.
Even though the file you're opening seems to be a broken JPG image it is in fact a PHP file with an embed iframe in which runs a very simple script that opens your dA profile and posts a journal.
Don't worry. It doesn't do anything beside posting the journal... so far. It's just annoying and spams the page.
BUT
The source code might change after it spreads making the content malicious, so don't click the goddamn link for your own good.
PS. Yes, I know it's not technically a hack or a virus, but hell, this draws attention and that's the whole point - to stop the spam before it spreads like the one we had before and which

A few Weeks ago  $Moonbeam13 hinted to a secret project that "has the potential to change your deviant experience. Bring you knowledge that can increase your potential. Be fun and exciting and a chance to WIN stuff.". Well....here it is! The AR team is extremely excited to bring you Project: EDUCATE!
What is it?
Project: EDUCATE is an initiative from the Artists Relations team to build gallery knowledge, raise community awareness, promote interaction, and most importantly share information.
How's it going to work?
Keep an eye on the news and your Gallery Directors journals! There will be contests, featured chats, news articles, interactive activities, and great information. We will have    "A deviants' Guide to Community Involvement", dA related tutorials and tools, tricks and information on how you can grow and develop as an artist.

    :bulletpink: Create the News Article as you normally would in your own Journal portal. N.B If you create this as a 'Journal' rather than 'News', when you submit it to the Group it will show up in the Gallery, rather than the Blog.

    :bulletpink: Choose to submit to Groups at the last page, after formatting and select #ArtHistoryProject. You may also submit to any Group you Admin for, providing it is relevant. In fact I would encourage this as it will spread the Project further - many people will be yet to hear
    about it. e.g. I submit my Pinup & Glamour stuff to my #Death-Chicks Group, as it fits the theme.

    :bulletpink: It doesn't matter what Art you usually create. You can get involved with any area. This is about what YOU can contribute. You are not stepping on anyone’s toes by picking a subject that other artists major in; there is nothing to force them to take part, so the community might miss out on that area all together if you don’t step up!

I can do something about quilting - Since it's about art history I can write something about how it used to be done and perhaps something about how patterns were named etc so "the history of patchwork and quilting" would be the theme - I'd prefer a date after Christmas so I have enough time to check my facts and write it :) and looking at the resources gallery I see that there are barely any quilt tutorials so I think I'll change that pretty soon too :)
