As part of Graphical Art History Month I will be interviewing some of your Community Volunteers
Today it's the lovely Lyricanna - Community Volunteer for Fan Art
Hi Lyricanna, tell us a little about yourself and your style of Art.
Hi, I'm Rhys and when not creating digital dolls, my style runs more towards semi-relaistic-anime mash-up. I mostly work traditionally since it's just easier for me.
Also a bit more portable; there are places I can take a pencil and sketchbook that I would not want to take a laptop and tablet
What is it that attracts you to Graphical Art?
I just like characters; designing, replicating, trying to achieve some meaningful interaction.
How much do you think that the roots and origins of Art affect what we create today?
Quite a bit; there are still many popular styles that exaggerate aspects of the human form.
Although in very different ways; goddess/fertility statues of old emphasized a plump, well rounded pregnant figure while now many prominent styles, manga/anime and comics tend to emphasize thin-ness and a distinct hour glass.
Two opposite sounding images, both meant to be sexual. Just as one example
Mature Content
What do you think is the most iconic painting of all time?
In the "everyone knows it" sense, the Mona Lisa.
In a religious sense (since icons were religious images) the Last Supper.
In a commonly replicated/parodied sense, Botticelli's The Birth of Venus (fav.me/d525kmq as an example).
Are you a member of any dA Graphical Art Groups? If so, which?
I follow several Fan Art, Anime, and Game Development Art groups, but I mostly appreciate from a distance and don't participate too much
Did you study Art at School / College / Uni? Or in your own time?
5 years of high school art + 3 of leaching info from FionaCreates, fog-mire and SpiritLullaby who all have/are going through art college.
So mostly just listened to the knowledge imparted and tried a lot of things on my own.
Which is your favourite Graphical Art piece on dA?
I have far too many, so here's one from each category
(l-r)Mystique 16 Cover by mikemayhew | Tarmon Gaidon by dem888 | Those crazy Stairs by kangel | Run Veggies, Run by misha-dragonov
Who are your favourite Graphical Artists of all time?
mikemayhew ranks up there. So does Kaori Yuki.
I don't really follow many famous artists though
Which Artist(s) have inspired your Art?
Kaori Yuki most definitely; she was one of the first artists that made me love manga.
The character designers for the Fire Emblem series have influenced me as much.
Also love Luis Royo's work, he can put a lot of emotion into his paintings.
Thank you Lyricanna!
